Wildfire season in BC - August 2026
While the Canadian Rockies experienced significant winter snowfall and a wet spring, British Columbia and its surrounding regions are currently facing very dry conditions. Several wildfires are now active in the region, including one a few valleys away from Mistaya Lodge which we are monitoring closely. Currently, our primary challenge is shifting smoke levels; however, our high-elevation location in the Wildcat Valley typically prevents smoke from settling as it does in lower-elevation areas.
Mistaya Lodge is situated within a high-alpine landscape of glaciers, rock, and water bodies that naturally mitigate fire risk. To further ensure the safety of our guests and staff, we maintain a comprehensive, multi-tiered fire suppression plan.
Please be advised that backcountry travel may be subject to interruptions due to uncontrollable events such as wildfires. Mistaya Lodge cannot be held responsible for additional expenses or losses incurred due to these circumstances. We always strongly emphasize the importance of obtaining comprehensive travel insurance that covers health, trip cancellation, interruption, and emergency evacuation.
We intend to operate all scheduled trips and will adjust itineraries as necessary to accommodate changing conditions. We encourage guests to view our live webcam and weather forecast for current lodge conditions. If you have health concerns regarding smoke, please consult your insurance provider before departing for your trip.
